Review Film: Jumanji The Next Level

Jumanji's latest film series can be said to be a successful film re-production. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (2017) did not damage Jumanji (1995), even so with the film Jumanji: The Next Level  which was released last December 4.

This time, Jumanji: The Next Level tells the story of Spencer (Alex Wolff) who wants to return to the video game Jumanji after his relationship with Martha (Morgan Turner) is unclear.

In Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, Spencer gets the avatar of Smolder Bravestone (Dwayne Johnson) who is the most powerful character. He wanted to get that avatar again.

But unfortunately, the Jumanji game console was broken even though it was repaired by Spencer. As a result, he couldn't choose the avatar he wanted.

The same thing happened with Martha, Fridge (Ser'Darius Blain) and Bethany (Madison Iseman), who decided to return to Jumanji to help Spencer.

True to the title of the film, Jumanji's game is more difficult than before due to console crashes. Moreover, Spencer's grandfather, Eddie (Danny DeVito) and his friend Milo (Danny Glover), join the game and are difficult to work with to finish Jumanji.

The script, which was re-written by Jeff Pinker and Scott Rosenberg and assisted by director Jake Kasdan, is fairly good, unpredictable, and doesn't feel forced.

They still use the same formula from Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, which is to show tense scenes and mix comedy with elements.

It appears like when the avatars have to cross a cliff via a wooden bridge and a swinging rope. The challenge increases when they have to cross the fragile bridge while being chased by Mandril, a type of fierce monkey.

In the midst of tension, the Bravestone avatar used by Eddie does stupid things to endanger other players.

But instead of apologizing, he felt that he was the one who had the most role in saving his friends. Simple silliness hits.

Written by the same author and using a similar pattern, Jumanji: The Next Level is still closely related to its predecessor, Welcome to the Jungle. This makes it better for the audience to watch the 2017 released film first before watching The Next Level.

Jumanji The Next Level is even more interesting because it contains a neat, solid, and not long-winded dialogue. In addition, there are also various humorous dialogues that invite laughter.

Even so, there are also comedic dialogues that fail to invite laughter because they are used too often and tend to bore the audience.

The thing that deserves the attention of Columbia Pictures as the studio of this film is the problem of visual effects that are less subtle at the beginning. For a studio class like Columbia, there should be no problem with visual effects.

Regarding the acting of the actors, it seems that there is nothing to doubt, especially for Johnson (Bravestone), Jack (Sheldon) and Kevin Hart (Franklin Finbat).

They can play different characters according to the character of the player who uses them as avatars.

In general, Jumanji The Next Level should be a recommendation for viewers who want to get entertainment and laugh out loud without having to think hard while relaxing.
